    Description

    Celebrating American made dolls ...
Wonderful original, early circa 1923, soft-stuffed cloth,
    "Dolly Dingle",
    doll designed by
    Grace Drayton
exactly as she first appeared in,
    "The Ladies Home Journal"
    , for the
Dolly Dingle line of paper doll cut-outs.
Between the years, 1912 and 1933, Grace drew over two hundred paper doll pages for the
    "
    Pictorial Review"
alone. Many of these were the "Dollie Dingle" series of paper doll cut-out pages.
    "Dolly" was manufactured for the
    Madame Hendren
line of dolls produced by the
    Averill Mfg. Co.
    and  is,
    15" tall
, and has large hand painted,
    googly (side-glancing) eyes
, an impish smile and cute little nose, painted blond hair in ringlets and still has a
large round, working "voice" box inside her torso,
mitt-type hands with separate thumbs, well-shaped little feet and wears her original cotton, one-piece undies and original, flower printed baby dress with ruffled neckline trim and matching embroidered hem & sleeves. See her on page 69, "Cloth Dolls"-Linda Edward. She is in very good condition with no damages or repairs, (two small fabric splits in hair, old water stain that does not affect her appearance) no odors and is from a smoke free home.
Other antique cloth dolls and Grace Drayton book illustrations are shown only for reference,
    not included
    and listed separately.
