    Description

    Celebrating life together....
    This delightful,
    14" tall
    ,
    PAIR
of antique stockinette cloth, doll figures of an elderly Italian gentleman and his lovely wife were designed by
    Italian artist, Yvonne Wendremaire Spaggiari
in the manner of Bernard Ravca, France,
    circa 1927,
    (both are the
    *earlier, stocky versions
) with the most realistic and detailed, hand painted and needle sculpted, sweet features as well as detailed hands with stitched fingers. They have the loveliest, attentive brown and grey eyes and expressions with wrinkled foreheads, finely painted eyebrows, closed lips with highlights, rosy cheeks and molded ears. They have thick, blond curly mohair wigs, one is covered by his very appealing, blue knit cap with pompom and hers is gathered at the back into a thick bun beneath her head scarf. He wears a charming, blue striped knit sweater with long sleeves and red printed bandanna tied around his neck, blue trousers, knit socks and
    rare
    leatherette
    *
shoes with nailed soles as shown on page 48.
    Note
that very few of these dolls have this type of original shoes as detailed in the article listed below. He also carries a smoking pipe in one hand and a large woven basket in the other along with a very long, wide fishing net over one shoulder. His lovely companion wears a long, grey cotton apron with pocket over her long, green plaid wool skirt, wonderful green wool plaid, fitted weskit (jacket)  with long sleeves and long blue striped cotton bloomers, tan petticoat and long, black knit stockings and wooden clog shoes. See further detailed information on these wonderful dolls in the *July, 2016 issue of,
    *
"Antique Doll Collector" magazine. They are in excellent clean condition with no damages or repairs and no odors as they are from a smoke free home (some old repairs to his knit sweater, which look like they may be original). Other members of this doll family in last photos are
    not included
    and will each be
    listed separately
    .
    Please
    NOTE:
    Other Ravca type dolls (
formally in our collection) shown in last few photos are
*shown in an extensive, "Antique Doll Collector", July 2016 article on *pages 40-49, not included and some are listed separately.
