Large Norah Wellings Native American Indian, 'Fleetfoot' Model K22, 1930's

Indian Summer Dreams
This rare Native American Indian doll is from the
Norah Wellings, England,
Novelty Doll Line, "Fleetfoot", model K22.
He is the largest size listed in the
1936
catalogue and is 19 inches tall and is complete. His head and hands with individually stitched fingers are made of velvet and the rest of him is made of wool felt. His
head swivels
at the neck and his
co
lo
rf
ul
felt clothing, with applied felt fringes and leaf appliques, is an integral part of his body. He has black wool yarn hair, parted in the center and two thick braids and still retains his original, dark red printed scarf tied around his neck. He has
very distinctive and realistically molded,
deep brown velveteen
features,
wonderfully molded eyebrows and painted features including a
furrowed brow and high cheek
bones with somewhat fierce expression, brown eyes, applied ears and closed mouth.
He still has
both
his
original labels
firmly attached to his feet and has some marks and moth holes on his outfit which will benefit from a careful light cleaning. It seems that his arms have been restitched at the shoulder (due to a long ago, battle injury?) and his nose does has a small dent but this
does not detract from his overall appearance. Other Norah Wellings and, Native American Indian dolls are
